ServerReplay Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start recording on my server?
Use the `/replay start` command to begin recording. You can specify whether to record all players, a specific player, or a chunk area depending on your needs. The mod will create a replay file in your server's replay folder.
Can players see that recording is happening?
No, ServerReplay records server-side without requiring players to install anything or see recording indicators. Players can continue playing normally while the mod captures their actions.
What's the difference between recording a player and recording a chunk?
Recording a player captures that player's perspective and actions from their viewpoint, while recording a chunk captures everything happening in a static area regardless of who's there. Use player recording for individual perspectives and chunk recording for monitoring specific locations.
Why is my replay file so large?
Replay files grow with recording duration and the amount of activity in recorded areas. You can reduce file size by recording only specific chunks or players instead of everything, or by using the skip-unloaded-periods option to avoid storing empty time.
Can I record multiple players at once?
Yes, you can record all players simultaneously, and the replay file will support all their perspectives. When rendering, you can switch between any player's viewpoint to see their individual experience.
Do I need to install Replay Mod on the server?
No, ServerReplay only needs to be installed on the server. Players don't need Replay Mod installed to be recorded, though they'll need it installed on their client if they want to view and render the replay files.
What happens to chunks that aren't loaded during recording?
Unloaded chunks won't be recorded and won't appear in the replay, but the mod won't cause errors or corruption. When you play back the replay, those areas will simply be empty or unloaded.
Can I automate recording so it runs without commands?
Yes, ServerReplay supports automated recording through configuration options. You can set it to continuously record specific chunks or players on a schedule without needing operators to manually trigger recordings.
Will recording affect my server's performance?
ServerReplay is designed for server-side efficiency, but recording does use disk I/O and some processing power. Performance impact depends on how much you're recording and your server hardware; consider recording only necessary players or chunks if you notice lag.
Why do some things not appear in my replay?
Custom boss bars and certain client-side effects won't be recorded since ServerReplay captures server-side data. Only events and entities that exist on the server will appear in your replay file.
