Create an Atmosphere of Dread with Environmental Scares
Building Tension Through the World
The most effective scares don't rely on jump scares alone. Use environmental commands to make your world feel genuinely haunted and unsafe.
Darkness and Isolation
Start by breaking nearby light sources. Use /breakTorches <targets> <minRadius> <maxRadius> to plunge your target into darkness. This creates immediate vulnerability and fear. For extra effect, use /setLongNight to extend the night cycle, keeping the world dark longer than normal.
Unsettling Sounds
Layer in audio horror using /fakeMining <targets> to play mining sounds nearby, or /fakeSteps <targets> to simulate footsteps following them. These commands work best when used repeatedly or in combination—the player won't know where the sounds are coming from.
Physical Threats
Use /startRandomFire <targets> <maxRadius> <minRadius> to ignite fires around your target, or /hitPlayerLightning <targets> to strike them with lightning. These create immediate danger and panic.
Pro tip: Use these commands in sequence over several minutes rather than all at once. Sustained dread is more effective than a single overwhelming moment.
