Server Side Horror Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do my friends need to install the mod to play on my server?
No, the mod is server-side only, so your friends can join and play normally without downloading or installing anything. They'll experience all the scares and events without knowing the mod exists.
How do I make fake players actually appear on the server?
Use the command `/spawnFakePlayer ` to spawn a fake player near someone. You can add fake player names to a list first with `/addFakeJoiner `, and the fake player will appear with a real chat message if you've saved one.
What's the difference between /breakTorches and /replaceTorches?
`/breakTorches` removes torches to leave players in darkness, while `/replaceTorches` changes nearby torches into something else to mess with players. Both affect torches in a radius around the target.
How do I save player chat messages to use in fake joiner events?
The mod automatically saves real chat messages from your server to use later in fake events. You can clear all saved messages with `/resetMessages` if needed.
Can I make the night last longer?
Yes, use the `/setLongNight` command to make the night much longer than usual, creating an extended period of darkness for atmospheric scares.
How do I control how often random scares happen automatically?
Open the `config/serversidehorror.json` file in your profile folder to adjust the frequency of random scary events. You can also turn off specific scares entirely if they're too intense for your server.
What does /particleJumpScare actually do?
This command triggers the mod's jump scare effect on a specific player, hitting them with a sudden visual and audio scare to catch them off guard.
Can I prank just one player without scaring everyone?
Yes, most commands let you target specific players with ` `, so you can scare individual friends with commands like `/fakeSteps ` or `/hitPlayerLightning ` without affecting the whole server.
Do I need to place signs and heads manually or can the mod do it?
The mod can place them for you with `/placeSign ` and `/placeHead `, which will put creepy signs and player heads near a target in a random location within your specified radius.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues on my server?
Since the mod runs server-side only and doesn't require client downloads, it has minimal impact on player performance. However, spawning many fake players or triggering multiple effects at once may affect server performance depending on your hardware.
