Selective Bounds Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn off the mod if I want normal Minecraft outlines back?
Open configs/selectivebounds.json and set the main enable option to false, then restart your game. This will restore the standard Minecraft outline behavior on every block you look at.
Why does the outline disappear when I'm looking at leaves?
The mod hides outlines on foliage and non-solid blocks by default to reduce visual clutter. You can temporarily see the outline by holding Shift, or disable this behavior in the config file.
The outline won't show up even when I'm holding the right tool. What's wrong?
Check that you're actually holding a tool the mod recognizes as valid for that block type—for example, a pickaxe for stone. If the outline still doesn't appear, verify the mod is enabled in your config file.
Can I make the outline always visible like vanilla Minecraft?
Yes, open configs/selectivebounds.json and disable the smart tool detection and foliage hiding features. This will show outlines on all blocks regardless of what you're holding.
Does this mod work with other mods that add custom blocks?
The mod works with most custom blocks, but if a custom block's tool type isn't recognized, the outline may not behave as expected. You can adjust the config to whitelist or blacklist specific blocks if needed.
How do I show the outline temporarily without changing my settings?
Hold Shift while looking at a block to make the outline appear temporarily. Release Shift and it will hide again according to your normal settings.
Can I configure different behavior for different block types?
Yes, the configuration file allows you to adjust which blocks hide their outlines and under what conditions. You can customize behavior per block or by category.
Does the mod affect performance or cause lag?
No, this mod only changes when outlines are drawn and has minimal performance impact. It actually reduces rendering slightly by hiding unnecessary outlines.
Why does the outline appear when I start mining but disappear when I stop?
The mod is designed to show the outline while you're actively breaking blocks, then hide it again once you stop. This is the intended temporary visibility feature.
Can I make the outline show even when I have no tool equipped?
Yes, open configs/selectivebounds.json and disable the 'hide when unarmed' or similar option. The outline will then display on all blocks regardless of what's in your hand.
