Second Chance Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know if the Second Chance mod is actually working?
Take a hit from a mob while you have more than the configured minimum hearts and watch whether you drop to half a heart instead of dying. If you survive a blow that should have killed you, the mod is active. You can also check the config file to confirm the mechanic is enabled.
Why didn't the mod save me when I fell off a cliff?
The mod intentionally does not trigger for fall damage, crushing damage, or void damage. Only direct hits from mobs or similar sources count toward the second chance. Use the mid-air jump feature instead to recover from a ledge fall.
How do I trigger the mid-air jump after walking off a ledge?
After you step off a ledge and start falling, press the jump key again while still in the air. You get a brief window to perform the extra jump, so react quickly. This is separate from the lethal-hit survival mechanic.
What's the minimum health I need for the second chance to activate?
By default the mod requires you to have more than a set number of hearts before a lethal hit will leave you at half a heart. You can raise or lower that threshold in the config. If you're below the threshold, the hit kills you normally.
Can I turn off the second chance mechanic but keep the mid-air jump?
Yes, the two features are configured separately. You can disable the lethal-hit survival while leaving the mid-air jump enabled, or vice versa. Check the config options for each mechanic.
Why do I still die instantly to some mobs even with the mod installed?
The mod only saves you if your health is above the configured threshold when the hit lands. If you're already low, or the damage comes from fall, crushing, or void sources, you'll die as normal. Very high burst damage from certain sources may also bypass the check depending on your settings.
How do I change the sound that plays when the second chance triggers?
Open the mod's config and look for the sound cue option. You can swap it for a different sound or disable it entirely. Changes apply after you save the config and reload the game or world.
Does the Second Chance mod work on a multiplayer server?
The mod needs to be installed on the server for the mechanic to apply to players there. If only the client has it, the server won't recognize the survival check. Confirm with your server admin that it's installed server-side.
Will this mod conflict with other combat or health mods?
It generally plays fine with mods that don't override the same damage-handling logic. Mods that heavily rewrite player death or damage events may conflict, so test in a fresh world if you're unsure. Check the config to disable overlapping features if needed.
Does the mid-air jump work in the Nether or End?
Yes, the mid-air jump works anywhere you can fall, including the Nether and the End. It won't save you from the void, since void damage is excluded from the mod's protections. Use it to recover from ledge falls in any dimension.
