Navigate Dangerous Terrain Safely at Reduced Speed

Slow Down Before Risky Areas

When approaching cliffs, lava, or narrow bridges, hold Alt and scroll your mouse wheel down to reduce your walking speed. Moving slower gives you more time to react and correct your path if you start to slip.

Maintain Precise Control

Keep scrolling down until you reach a speed where you feel confident. You can walk at any pace between your minimum and normal speed—there's no fixed "sneak speed," so adjust to match the hazard. Narrow bridges might need very slow movement, while open terrain over lava can be faster.

Return to Normal Speed

Once you've safely crossed the dangerous area, hold Alt and scroll up to restore your normal walking speed. You can do this instantly or gradually—whatever feels natural.

This approach is faster than sneaking for casual exploration and gives you full control without the reduced jump height that sneaking imposes.
