Build Your First Sailing Ship

Gather Materials

Collect wooden planks, logs, and wool. Wooden blocks have low density (0.38 for planks, 0.17 for slabs), making them ideal for hulls that float high. Craft a Ship Helm at a crafting table.

Construct the Hull

On open water, arrange your wooden blocks into a hull shape. The structure must be completely detached from the seafloor or shoreline—no blocks touching solid ground. Make the hull wide enough to support your planned superstructure.

Attach the Helm

Place the Ship Helm on top of your wooden hull. Right-click it to assemble all connected floating blocks into a single moving vessel.

Add Sails

Place a mast (a vertical column of blocks) and attach wool blocks or wool sails to its sides. Longer masts with more wool increase your forward speed. The mod calculates sail effectiveness based on your ship's total length.

Test Your Ship

Right-click the helm again to pilot. Use W/A/S/D to move and steer. Press R to engage cruise control, and Left Shift to dismount and dock your ship back into blocks.
