Ruins Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I know if Ruins Mod is actually working in my world?
Generate a fresh world and fly around in spectator or creative mode looking for the mod's structures, since Ruins only places them during world generation. Existing chunks you already explored won't get new ruins, so you need unexplored terrain or a new world to see them.
Do Ruins structures spawn in chunks I've already loaded?
No, Ruins hooks into world generation, so structures only appear in newly generated chunks. If you want ruins in an existing world, you'll need to travel to terrain you've never visited before.
Where do I put my own structure files so the mod finds them?
Place your converted template files in the mod's ruins folder inside your Minecraft directory, keeping the folder structure the mod expects. The mod reads that folder at world generation, so files added there will be picked up for new chunks.
How do I convert an MCEdit schematic into a Ruins template?
Use the schematic converter that ships with the mod to turn your exported schematic into the Ruins template format. Once converted, drop the resulting file into the ruins folder so it can be spawned.
How do I stop a specific structure from spawning?
Each structure has its own configuration file that controls where and how often it spawns. You can disable a structure by editing or removing its entry in that config rather than deleting the template file.
How do I make ruins spawn more or less often?
Spawn frequency is controlled per-structure in the config files, so you adjust the spawn chance or rarity values there. Raising the chance makes a structure appear more often, lowering it makes it rarer.
Can I control which biomes a structure spawns in?
Yes, each structure's config lets you specify the biomes or conditions under which it's allowed to generate. If a structure isn't showing up where you expect, check that its biome conditions actually match that area.
Why aren't my custom structures showing up in the world?
The most common causes are a misplaced file in the ruins folder, a template that failed to convert properly, or spawn conditions that don't match the biome you're in. Also remember that only newly generated chunks will contain them.
Is Ruins Mod compatible with other world generation mods?
Ruins generally works alongside other mods, but stacking many structure-adding mods can cause overlapping builds or crowded terrain. If you see structures clipping into each other, reduce spawn chances in the configs.
Will adding lots of ruins hurt my game's performance?
The mod itself is lightweight during normal play since structures are placed at generation time, but very large or numerous templates can slow down world generation. If new chunk generation feels sluggish, lower spawn frequencies or trim oversized structures.
