Ruins and Towers Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I find a Challenge Tower?
Challenge Towers spawn naturally in specific biomes: Dry Challenge Towers appear in deserts, badlands, and savannas, while Chilling Challenge Towers generate in snowy plains, ice spikes, and snowy taigas. They're tall structures that are hard to miss once you explore these biomes.
What does the Ominous Bottle do?
Drinking an Ominous Bottle before entering a Challenge Tower increases the difficulty of that tower, making enemies tougher and potentially improving the quality of loot you receive. It's optional, so only use it if you want a harder challenge.
Do I need special tools to get loot from ruins?
Yes—use a brush on suspicious gravel found in forest ruins to carefully excavate ancient stone knives, leather shields, and other ancient tools. A regular pickaxe won't work on suspicious gravel.
What's inside a Sculk Chimney?
Sculk Chimneys are vertical shafts that descend from the surface into deep dark biomes, containing valuable ores like diamonds, redstone, and gold, along with deep dark blocks. They're dangerous due to the deep dark environment, so bring appropriate gear.
How do I beat the boss at the top of a Challenge Tower?
Clear each floor of the tower by defeating hostile mobs and collecting loot to gear up, then reach the top floor where the boss awaits. Defeat the boss to earn their unique weapon and a rune as your reward.
What biomes have the most structures?
Deserts, badlands, savannas, and snowy biomes are packed with Challenge Towers, while forests, plains, oceans, and jungles each have their own unique structure types like ruins, shrines, and cages. Exploring multiple biomes will give you access to different loot and bosses.
Can I find structures in the Nether or End?
Ruins and Towers structures generate only in the Overworld across vanilla biomes; they do not spawn in the Nether or End dimensions.
What's the difference between the two Challenge Tower types?
Dry Challenge Towers spawn in hot biomes and feature the Krah-Yan's Shadow boss, while Chilling Challenge Towers spawn in snowy biomes and feature the Borealis Archmage boss. Each has different enemy types and loot.
Do I need to complete towers in a specific order?
No—you can explore and complete any structure in any order. However, you may want to start with easier structures in accessible biomes and work your way up to harder towers as you gather better gear.
What should I bring before entering a Challenge Tower?
Bring combat gear (sword and armor), food for healing, a pickaxe for mining loot chests, and torches for lighting. If you want to increase difficulty, bring an Ominous Bottle as well.
