How to View Crafting Recipes and Uses for an Item in REI

Opening the Recipe Screen

Hover your cursor over any item in the REI list or in your own inventory. Press the recipe keybind (by default this is the same key JEI uses) to open the crafting recipe for that item. A panel appears showing the grid layout and the ingredients needed. If an item has multiple recipes, arrows or page buttons let you cycle through them.

Checking What an Item Is Used For

Hover an item and press the uses keybind to see every recipe that consumes it. This is the fastest way to figure out what a strange drop or byproduct is good for. The uses screen also shows non-crafting usages where supported, such as smelting, brewing, or mod-specific machines.

Navigating the Recipe Panel

• Click the left or right arrows to move between alternative recipes.
• Click an ingredient inside the recipe to jump straight to that ingredient's own recipe page.
• Use the back button to return to the previous item you were viewing.
• Some recipes are shaped and some are shapeless; the panel shows the difference visually, so pay attention to whether positions matter.

If Nothing Shows Up

If pressing the key does nothing, the item may have no recipe in your current modpack, or the keybind may conflict with another mod. Check your controls menu and rebind if needed.
