How to Fix Lag in Large Refined Storage Networks with the Mixin Mod
Why Large Networks Lag
In vanilla Refined Storage, every block in your network (cables, importers, exporters, interfaces, crafters) tries to update on a regular tick. When you have hundreds or thousands of these blocks in one network, the server spends a huge amount of time just checking each one, even when nothing is happening. This is the main source of lag in big storage systems.
The Mixin Mod changes this by slowing down normal block updates and putting idle machines to sleep. Active machines (importers pulling items, crafters running jobs) still work at full speed.
What You Should Do
1. Install the mod alongside Refined Storage. No config changes are required for the basic lag fix to work.
2. If you still see lag, open the mod's config file and look for the update speed settings. Lower the tick rate for idle blocks.
3. Do not lower it too far if you rely on fast item routing through many chained interfaces, since slower updates can add a small delay to item movement.
4. Leave active importers and crafters alone. The mod already keeps them fast.
5. Test in a copy of your world first if your network is very large, so you can compare tick times before and after.
What to Expect
Idle parts stop consuming server time. Your TPS should recover noticeably on big bases. If you notice items taking slightly longer to appear in your grid after inserting them, that is the trade-off and you can raise the update speed in config.
