Use Ghost Items to Configure Machine Filters

Understand Ghost Items

Ghost items are virtual placeholders that let you set up filters without needing the actual physical item in your inventory. This is especially useful for dyes, rare materials, or items you haven't crafted yet.

Drag from JEI into Filter Slots

Open JEI and locate the item you want to filter by. Drag it from the item list on the right side of your screen directly into a filter slot on your machine (Importer, Exporter, Detector, etc.). The item appears as a ghost—it's registered in the filter but doesn't consume a real copy.

Configure Multiple Filters

Repeat this process for each filter slot you need to set up. You can stack different colored dyes, enchanted books, or any variant without needing to gather them first.

Verify and Test

Once your filters are configured with ghost items, test the machine's behavior. It will now filter based on the ghost items you've placed, even though they don't physically exist in your storage.
