Recruits Living Villages Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start a village?
Find an existing town hall with a lectern inside, then right-click the lectern to open the village menu. Alternatively, use /rvfind to locate the nearest settlement, then /rvjoin while standing in the town hall to officially join that faction.
What do I need emeralds for?
Emeralds are your town's currency, collected as taxes from working villagers. You spend them to hire soldiers, upgrade buildings, construct new structures, and purchase equipment for your army.
How do villagers level up?
Villagers gain experience by working their assigned jobs—farmers produce food by farming, butchers process meat, and other professions level similarly. As they advance from Novice to Master, they produce better quality resources and generate more tax income.
Can wars happen without me starting them?
Yes, rival factions can declare war on each other in the background even when you're exploring elsewhere. You'll receive a notification and can use /rvwar accept or /rvwar decline to join or skip your faction's war.
Do I have to be online for my village to grow?
No, the background simulation keeps your town running, collecting taxes, and preparing for battles even when you're far away or logged off. Villages continue to develop and can engage in wars without your direct involvement.
What happens when soldiers die in battle?
Fallen soldiers leave behind corpses that can be looted for food and equipment if you have the Corpse mod installed. Battle results are calculated based on troop levels, gear quality, and chance, so losing soldiers is a real risk in warfare.
How do I hire my own personal army?
Use the command /rvhire [group] and pay emeralds to recruit soldiers that follow you directly. These troops are separate from your town's garrison and can be commanded independently.
Does this mod work with other mods?
Yes—it pairs with the Musket mod to give crossbowmen muskets, integrates with Epic Knights for class-based weapons and armor, and uses the Corpse mod for looting fallen enemies. It's built on top of the Recruits mod, which is required.
Why is my village not growing?
Make sure you have enough emeralds in your treasury to fund new buildings and upgrades, and that villagers are assigned to productive jobs. Check the village menu on the town hall lectern to see your current population, taxes, and available resources.
Can I see which factions control which territories?
Yes, the map view overlay displays colored faction territories and settlement information, letting you see which towns your faction controls and where rivals are located.
