Reconnectible Chains Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do chains reconnect when a block is broken?
When you break a block that a chain is attached to, the chain automatically searches for and connects to the nearest valid block within range instead of dropping as an item. This happens instantly and keeps your chain network intact.
Do chains reconnect in all directions or only downward?
Chains can reconnect to blocks in any direction—up, down, and sideways—as long as a valid attachment point exists within the reconnection range. This makes them useful for complex 3D builds, not just vertical structures.
What blocks can chains reconnect to?
Chains reconnect to solid blocks and most full-block structures, including wood, stone, metal blocks, and custom blocks from other mods. They cannot reconnect to transparent blocks, liquids, or air.
Can I disable reconnection for specific chains?
The mod applies reconnection globally to all chains in your world. If you need chains to behave normally, you'll need to work around the mechanic by ensuring blocks stay in place or using alternative decoration methods.
What happens if there's no block nearby when one breaks?
If no valid block exists within reconnection range, the chain will drop as an item just like vanilla Minecraft chains do. You can then pick it up and place it manually.
Does this mod affect chain physics or movement?
No—chains still behave the same way physically. This mod only changes what happens when the block they're attached to is destroyed, not how they move or interact with entities.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The reconnection system is lightweight since it only activates when blocks are broken. Performance impact should be minimal even in builds with many chains, but results depend on your hardware and world size.
Does this work with chains from other mods?
This mod only affects vanilla Minecraft chains. Chains added by other mods will follow their own behavior unless those mods are specifically designed to work together.
How far away can a chain reconnect to a new block?
The reconnection range is limited, but the exact distance isn't something you can adjust in-game. Plan your builds with the understanding that chains need a reasonably close block to reconnect to.
Can I use this for functional redstone builds or only decoration?
Reconnectible Chains is primarily for decoration and structural reliability. While chains don't interact with redstone directly, the mod ensures your decorative chain networks stay intact during building and modifications.
