Understand When Name Tags Show and Hide

Solid Blocks Hide Name Tags

Name tags become invisible when any solid block completely blocks the line of sight between you and the player or mob. This includes common blocks like stone, dirt, wood, sand, and ores.

Examples:

  • A player behind a stone wall: name tag hidden
  • A mob inside a wooden house: name tag hidden
  • A player in a cave with rock overhead: name tag hidden

Transparent Blocks Show Name Tags

Clear blocks do not hide name tags. You will see floating names through glass, water, ice, and similar transparent materials.

Examples:

  • A player visible through a glass window: name tag shows
  • A mob behind water: name tag shows
  • A player in an ice tunnel: name tag visible

Partial Visibility

If a solid block covers only part of a name tag, only the hidden portion disappears. The visible part remains on screen, appearing cut off or incomplete. This creates a realistic effect where you see what you can actually see.

Note: This mechanic only works when all players on a server have the mod installed, ensuring fair gameplay for everyone.
