Realistic Nametag Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to install this mod on a server or just my client?
All players on a server must install the mod for it to work properly, otherwise players without it will still see your name tag through walls. Single-player mode works with just a client-side installation.
Why can I still see my friend's name tag through a wall?
Your friend may not have the mod installed, or they may have disabled it in their configuration settings. Check that everyone on your server has the mod active and the disableMod option is set to allow the feature.
Does the mod hide name tags through glass and transparent blocks?
No, name tags show normally when viewed through transparent blocks like glass, water, or ice. The mod only hides them behind solid, opaque blocks.
What happens if only half my name tag is blocked by a wall?
The mod will only draw the visible portion of your name tag, so you'll see a partial name rather than the full text or nothing at all.
Can I turn off the mod without uninstalling it?
Yes, set the disableMod configuration option to true to turn off all mod features while keeping it installed.
Does this mod work in spectator mode?
By default yes, but you can disable the hiding effect while in spectator mode by changing the disableInSpectator configuration setting.
Will this mod affect my performance or FPS?
The mod has minimal performance impact since it only changes how name tags are rendered based on line-of-sight checks that Minecraft already performs.
Does the mod hide mob name tags too, or just player names?
The mod hides both player and mob name tags behind solid blocks equally.
Can I see my own name tag, or does it hide from me too?
You cannot see your own name tag in first-person view regardless of the mod, but other players will see it follow the hiding rules based on their view.
What blocks count as solid for hiding name tags?
Common blocks like stone, dirt, wood, and most full-sized blocks hide name tags, but transparent or partial blocks like glass, leaves, and slabs do not.
