Random Shulker Colours Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I make shulkers spawn with random colours?
Just install the mod — it works automatically on newly spawned shulkers, with no commands or setup required. Existing shulkers keep their original colour, so you'll only see the effect on fresh spawns.
Do I need to install this mod on the client too?
No, it's a server-side mod, so only the server (or your singleplayer world) needs it. Vanilla clients will still see the random colours because shell colour is synced as entity data.
Why are my shulkers still purple?
Shulkers that spawned before you added the mod keep their original colour — only newly spawned ones get a random colour. Break and respawn them, or use a spawn egg, to see the effect.
Can I change a shulker's colour after it has already spawned?
The mod only assigns a colour at spawn time, so there's no built-in way to repaint an existing shulker. You'll need to remove it and let a new one spawn (or spawn one with an egg) to get a different colour.
How do I get a specific colour shulker for a build or display?
Since colours are random per spawn, keep spawning shulkers (spawn eggs or a spawner) until you get the colour you want, then trap or name it so it doesn't despawn. You can also narrow the possible colours in the config so your target colour comes up more often.
How do I configure which colours shulkers can spawn with?
Open the mod's config file and edit the list of allowed colours — remove entries to exclude them or trim the list down to only the colours you want. Changes apply to shulkers that spawn after the config is reloaded or the game restarts.
Can I disable certain colours or make shulkers always one colour?
Yes — restrict the allowed colour list in the config to a single entry and every new shulker will spawn in that colour. Removing a colour from the list simply stops it from being picked.
Does the colour affect the shulker shell it drops?
No, the dropped shell is always the normal purpur shell regardless of the shulker's colour. The random colour is purely visual and doesn't change drops, loot, or crafting.
Does this mod work on a multiplayer server, and do all players see the colours?
Yes, it's designed as a server-side mod, so install it on the server and every player sees the same random colours. Clients don't need the mod installed to see them.
Will this mod cause lag or conflict with other mob mods?
It's lightweight — it only sets a colour value when a shulker spawns, so performance impact is negligible. Conflicts are rare, but mods that heavily rewrite shulker spawning or entity data could interfere with colour assignment.
