Make Mobs Spawn in a Specific Size Range

Set up uniform scaling

Use the /mobscalings command to assign a size range to any mob type. This makes mobs spawn randomly between your chosen minimum and maximum sizes.

`

/mobscalings set <entity_type> uniform {min_scaling:0.5, max_scaling:1.5}

`

Replace <entity_type> with the mob's namespace ID (for example minecraft:cow, minecraft:zombie, minecraft:creeper).

Choose your range carefully

Start conservatively—ranges like 0.75 to 1.25 are safer for gameplay balance. Wider ranges (0.2 to 5.0) can make huge mobs overpowered or tiny mobs trivial to fight.

Test and adjust

Spawn a few mobs and observe their sizes and behavior. If they feel too extreme, reload your config with /random_mob_sizes config reload and try narrower bounds.

Use gaussian for natural variety

If you want *most* mobs near normal size with rare extremes, use gaussian scaling instead:

`

/mobscalings set <entity_type> gaussian {min_scaling:0.5, max_scaling:1.5}

`

This clusters sizes around the middle while still allowing occasional outliers.
