Make Large Mobs Move Slower
Use inverse speed scaling
By default, larger mobs move at the same speed as normal ones. To make size feel more impactful, configure speed to scale inversely—bigger mobs move slower.
`
/mobscalings set <entity_type> uniform {min_scaling:0.75, max_scaling:1.5, scale_speed:"inverse"}
`
With inverse, a 2× sized mob moves at half speed, making it easier to kite or escape.
Use inverse_square for extreme slowdown
For very dramatic size differences, use inverse_square:
`
scale_speed:"inverse_square"
`
This makes a 2× mob move at 1/4 speed—much more noticeable and tactical.
Balance with other attributes
Combine slow speed with appropriate health and damage scaling. A slow, huge mob with high damage is still dangerous but gives you time to react. A slow mob with low damage becomes almost harmless.
Test movement feel
Spawn a large mob and observe how it pursues you. If it feels too slow or too fast, adjust your size range or try a different scaling type. Remember to reload your config after changes.
