How to Make Items Exit a Copper Pipe in a Specific Direction

Copper pipes in Quark Oddities move items automatically, but sometimes you want items to go to one specific container instead of wandering. Here is how to control the exit.

Understanding Pipe Movement

Items inside a copper pipe travel along the pipe and try to find an exit. A pipe considers any adjacent inventory as a valid exit. If multiple inventories are adjacent, items may choose randomly or based on internal rules. Items pop out of the pipe like a dispenser when they reach an exit.

Forcing a Direction

To force items toward one container, block all other potential exits. Place solid blocks or non-pipe blocks next to the pipe where you do not want items to go. Only leave the pipe connection open toward your target container. If you want items to travel further before exiting, use more pipe sections and block off side connections. You can also use a hopper to pull items out of the pipe at a specific point, which overrides the pipe's natural exit behavior.

Using Glass Pipes

Copper pipe inside a glass block acts as a window. It still moves items but lets you see them. Use glass pipes in straight sections to monitor flow and confirm items are moving in the right direction. If items get stuck, check that the pipe has a valid exit and that no block is obstructing the path.

Common Mistakes

Do not place chests on every side of a pipe unless you want items to split. Do not assume pipes prioritize the closest container. Always test your setup with a few items before scaling up.
