How to Feed Items into Copper Pipes Using Hoppers and Dispensers

Copper pipes do not pull items on their own. You need to insert items using hoppers, dispensers, or by throwing them in. This guide covers each method.

Using Hoppers

Place a hopper so it points into a copper pipe. The hopper will push items into the pipe automatically. This is the most common way to feed a pipe line. You can chain multiple hoppers if you need to move items from several containers into one pipe. Make sure the hopper is facing the pipe, not a chest.

Using Dispensers

A dispenser facing a copper pipe will eject items into the pipe when powered. This is useful for timed or redstone-controlled insertion. For example, you can use a button or lever to dispense items into the pipe on demand. The dispenser must be directly adjacent to the pipe and facing it.

Throwing Items Directly

You can also throw items onto the pipe by dropping them from your hand. The pipe will pick them up and move them along. This is handy for quick manual insertion but not practical for automation.

Combining Methods

You can use hoppers to feed a pipe from a chest, and dispensers to inject special items at specific points. For example, a hopper feeds normal loot into the pipe, while a dispenser adds a stack of fuel when you press a button. This lets you mix automated and manual control.

Troubleshooting

If items are not entering the pipe, check that the hopper or dispenser is facing the correct way. Hoppers must point into the pipe, and dispensers must face it. Also ensure the pipe has a valid exit, or items will back up and stop entering.
