How to Stop Accidentally Placing Blocks on the Wrong Face

What Causes Misplacement

In vanilla, the face you place on is recalculated every tick based on where your crosshair is. If your mouse drifts even slightly while you hold the button, the next block can land on a side face instead of the top, or on a neighboring block instead of the one you intended.

Using Direction Lock

1. Aim carefully at the exact face you want before you press the button. The first block sets the direction.

2. Hold the button and keep holding. The mod locks that placement direction for as long as the button is down, so subsequent blocks follow the same orientation.

3. Move your body, not your aim. Walk or strafe to extend the row rather than sweeping the mouse across the surface.

4. Release the button when you want to change direction, then re-aim and press again.

Recovering from a Mistake

If a block lands wrong, break it and re-aim. Do not try to fix it by continuing to hold — the locked direction will keep producing the same error.

Practical Habits

  • Lower your mouse sensitivity slightly for large builds.
  • Build against a flat reference surface when possible.
  • For diagonal or curved builds, release and re-aim at each segment rather than trying to drag around the curve.
  • If you are placing on a ceiling, aim at the underside face and walk; the lock keeps blocks on that plane.
