Toggling Mob Spawning and Other World Rules Mid-Game

Access the Rule List

Preferred Gamerules exposes the same set of world rules you would see on the world-creation screen, but from inside a running world. Open Mod Menu, click the config button next to Preferred Gamerules, and browse the list. Rules typically cover things like mob spawning, mob loot, fire spread, and similar world behavior.

Change a Rule Safely

Find the rule you want — for example, disabling natural mob spawning to keep an area clear, or turning off fire spread to protect a wooden build. Set it to the value you want and apply the config. The change applies to the current world right away. If you are unsure what a rule does, change one at a time so you can tell which setting caused any difference you notice.

Reverting Changes

Every rule you toggle can be toggled back the same way. If a change causes problems, reopen the config and restore the previous value. Because these are the world's own gamerules, the settings stick with that world and do not affect your other worlds. This makes it easy to experiment without committing to a permanent change or starting over.
