Building a Damage Reflection and Vulnerability Setup with Recoil and Vulnerability
What Each Effect Does
Recoil reflects a portion of incoming damage back at the attacker. Vulnerability increases all damage you take, similar to how Resistance reduces it. These two pull in opposite directions, so the trick is deciding which one you want on which target.
Practical Combinations
- On yourself, for a tanky retaliation build: Recoil is the star. Anything that hits you takes some of that damage back. Vulnerability works against you here, so avoid stacking it on yourself unless you are deliberately raising the stakes.
- On enemies, to soften them up: Apply Vulnerability to a mob before engaging. Every hit you land deals more damage, which shortens fights against high-health targets.
- On enemies, to punish them: Recoil on a mob means your own hits bounce back at you. Do not apply Recoil to something you plan to melee unless you can absorb the reflected damage.
Execution Tips
Apply effects with commands or brewed potions before the fight starts, since mid-combat application wastes duration. Watch your own health bar when Recoil is active on a group of enemies, because multiple attackers each reflect a portion back. If you are setting this up for a server event or map, test the interaction first, since Recoil and Vulnerability scale with effect level and the exact reflected fraction depends on that level.
