Navigate Using the Portal Linking Compass

Understanding Compass Behavior

The Portal Linking Compass works differently than a regular compass. Instead of pointing to spawn, it points to the coordinates in the *other dimension* where your linked portal should be built. This accounts for the 1:8 distance ratio between the Overworld and Nether.

Following the Compass

1. After linking the compass to a portal in one dimension, travel to the other dimension

2. Watch the compass needle—it will point in the direction of the correct portal coordinates

3. Walk in the direction the needle points, checking periodically to stay on course

4. The needle will guide you to the exact spot where you need to build your destination portal

5. Build your portal at this location for a properly linked pair

Tips for Navigation

Keep the compass visible while traveling. In the Nether, watch for hazards while following the compass. If you get turned around, simply check the compass direction again.
