Making Polymorph Remember Your Preferred Recipe Automatically
Why It Sometimes Feels Like It Forgets
The mod saves your selection per recipe, not globally. If two ingredient layouts look similar but are technically different recipes, each one keeps its own memory. Likewise, a fresh crafting table or a newly placed furnace starts with no saved preference until you make a choice.
Getting Consistent Results
1. The first time you craft or smelt a conflicting recipe, open the selector and pick your item deliberately — do not just grab whatever default is shown.
2. Craft or smelt at least one of that item so the choice is registered.
3. From then on, the same recipe defaults to your pick.
For crafting tables, the preference is tied to the recipe and follows you between tables. For smelting blocks, it is stored on the block, so breaking and replacing a furnace resets it — you would need to re-select.
Practical Tips
- If a result suddenly changes, check whether you swapped an ingredient for a same-named item from a different mod; that counts as a different recipe.
- When setting up a bank of furnaces for one specific output, configure each block once before leaving them to run.
- Use the selector deliberately the first time rather than accepting defaults, so your saved preference is the one you actually want.
