PolyBlur Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the PolyBlur settings?
Open the OneConfig menu from the mod list or its assigned keybind, then select PolyBlur from the mod list. All blur options, including GUI blur and motion blur strength, are configured there.
How does the GUI blur actually work?
PolyBlur applies a Gaussian blur shader to the background of every GUI, so the world behind your inventory or menus appears softly blurred instead of sharp. The blur fades in when a GUI opens to give it a smooth transition.
Why is my GUI background not blurred at all?
The most common causes are the blur being disabled in the OneConfig menu or a shader/resource pack overriding GUI rendering. Check that GUI blur is enabled and that no other mod is replacing the GUI background.
Can I change how strong the blur is?
Yes, the blur strength is adjustable in the PolyBlur config under OneConfig. Lower values give a subtle effect while higher values make the background much softer.
What is motion blur strength in PolyBlur?
PolyBlur includes a motion blur option separate from the GUI blur, and its strength can be changed in the config. This affects how much blur is applied when the camera moves.
PolyBlur is causing lag — how do I fix it?
Blur is a shader effect, so it costs GPU performance, especially at high resolutions or with high strength values. Try lowering the blur strength, disabling motion blur, or turning off GUI blur if you only need one effect.
Does PolyBlur work with other GUI or shader mods?
It generally works alongside most mods, but other mods that replace GUI backgrounds or use their own shaders can conflict with it. If blur stops working, test with other GUI-affecting mods disabled to isolate the conflict.
Why did the blur stop working after I changed my resolution or window size?
Older versions had a bug where the framebuffer did not update on resolution change, but this was fixed. Make sure you are on a current build; if it still happens, try resizing the window again or restarting the game.
The blur looks wrong when I switch perspective — what's going on?
Perspective changes used to leave the blur in a stale state, which was fixed by resetting blur on perspective change. If you still see it, update the mod and reopen the GUI to refresh the effect.
Does PolyBlur work on macOS?
MacOS compatibility was fixed in the mod, so it should work on Mac now. If you are on an older build and see rendering issues, updating to a newer version resolves the known Mac problems.
