Plan Complex Redstone Contraptions with Multiple Pistons

Previewing Multi-Piston Systems

When building intricate redstone machines, preview each piston individually to ensure they work together correctly.

Workflow:

1. Right-click each piston base (with empty hand) to see its individual push sequence

2. Note the order blocks will move and any potential collisions

3. Check if one piston's output interferes with another piston's input

4. Verify timing—ensure blocks move in the intended sequence when activated

Managing Multiple Displays

You can have several piston previews active simultaneously, making it easier to compare behavior across your contraption. Use the hotkey (default: P) to clear all displays at once when you're ready to test or make adjustments.

Common Scenarios

This approach works well for:

  • Piston doors and gates
  • Flying machines
  • Block sorters
  • Automatic farms

By verifying each piston's behavior before powering your redstone, you save time debugging and avoid costly mistakes in your build.
