Diagnose Why a Piston Isn't Working

Finding Piston Failures

If a piston refuses to push blocks, use Pistorder to understand why.

Steps:

1. Right-click the piston base with an empty hand

2. Look at the visual overlay—it will show which blocks are preventing the push

3. The mod highlights blocks that would be destroyed if the piston fails, revealing the obstruction

4. Common failure causes include:

  • An immovable block (like bedrock or obsidian) in the push line
  • Too many blocks to push (exceeding the maximum limit)
  • Blocks that can't be moved by pistons (like tile entities or protected blocks)

Fixing the Problem

Once you identify the blocking block, you can:

  • Remove or relocate the obstruction
  • Redesign your contraption to work around it
  • Use a different piston orientation

Note: The mod shows predicted behavior even when pistons fail, though results may be slightly inaccurate in edge cases.
