How Pack Animals and Leashing Work
Understanding Pack Animal Behavior
Caravans include pack animals like llamas, horses, or mules that carry cargo. These animals are leashed to the caravan group and won't wander away during travel. Each biome uses animals suited to that environment, so desert caravans pair with different mounts than jungle or snowy caravans.
Leash Mechanics
The mod automatically teleports animals back to their owners if the leash distance becomes too great. This prevents animals from getting permanently separated during combat or if you chase the caravan far from the main group. Once the primary guard or leader despawns, all pack animals automatically disappear as well.
Looting from Animals
To access cargo, you must defeat or incapacitate the guards protecting the caravan. Once guards are gone, you can loot the pack animals' inventories directly. The animals themselves don't fight back, so focus your combat efforts on the pillagers and vindicators. Plan your ambush to minimize the distance animals travel, keeping them closer to where you can safely loot them.
