How do I start using Pet Protect Mod?
The mod works automatically once installed—your pets are protected by default. To customize which features are active, open the configuration file at config/petprotect.json and adjust the toggleable options to match your playstyle.
Why is my pet still taking damage even with the mod on?
Check that prevent_pet_damage is set to true in your config file. If it's already enabled, verify you're not in Creative Mode, as the ignore_creative setting may allow Creative players to bypass protection rules.
Can I turn off pet protection for just one pet?
Pet Protect Mod applies its rules globally to all pets—there's no per-pet toggle. If you need different protection levels, you'll need to adjust the main configuration options in config/petprotect.json.
How do I let my pets attack other players again?
Set prevent_pet_attack to false in your config/petprotect.json file. This will allow your pets to engage hostile players and other mobs as normal.
Why can't I damage my own pet to heal it?
The allow_owner_damage setting is likely disabled. Change it to true in config/petprotect.json if you want to be able to hit your own pets (useful for certain healing or training mechanics).
Do creative mode players ignore all the protection rules?
Only if ignore_creative is set to true in your config. If you want Creative players to respect pet protection like everyone else, set this option to false.
Does this mod work with other pet mods?
Pet Protect Mod is designed to work with standard Minecraft pets and most popular pet mods, but compatibility depends on how those mods register their pets. Test with your specific pet mod setup to confirm.
Will this mod slow down my game?
Pet Protect Mod has minimal performance impact since it only monitors pet damage events. You shouldn't notice any lag from running it alongside other mods.
Can I disable the entire mod without uninstalling it?

What happens if I change the config while the game is running?
You'll need to reload your world or restart the game for config changes to take effect. The mod reads the configuration file when it loads.
