Pet Names Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to do anything to start using this mod?
No setup required—the mod works automatically as soon as it's installed. Any baby mobs that spawn or are born will receive random names from the mod's pool right away.
Can I turn off naming for just one type of mob?
Yes. Open the config file and locate the mob-specific settings, then disable naming for whichever mob type you want to exclude. You can control each supported mob independently.
How do I make the mod use only male names or only female names?
In the config file, find the gender toggle options and disable either male or female names depending on your preference. You can also toggle both on to use a mixed pool.
Why aren't my mobs getting names?
Check that naming is enabled for that mob type in your config file, and verify the mob is actually a baby (adult mobs won't receive names). If the mod is disabled globally in the config, re-enable it.
What mobs does this mod work with?
Pet Names Mod supports Wolves, Horses, Cats, Donkeys, and Llamas. Only these five mob types will receive names.
Can I add my own custom names to the pool?
Yes, you can edit the name pool through the config file to add, remove, or replace names with your own custom list.
Do named mobs keep their names if I reload the world?
Yes, names are saved to the mob's data and persist across world reloads and server restarts.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
No, Pet Names Mod is lightweight and only assigns names when baby mobs spawn, with minimal impact on performance.
Does this work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, the mod works on servers. All players will see the same names for mobs, and the config can be customized per server.
Can I see what names are in the pool?
The complete name pool is stored in the mod's config or data files—you can open and view it to see all 5,000+ available names.
