Reading the Performance HUD Overlay
Understanding the Display
The Performance HUD shows real-time metrics about your game and system. By default, press P to toggle the overlay on and off. The HUD typically displays in a corner of your screen and updates every frame.
Key Metrics Explained
FPS and Frame Time: Shows your current frames per second and how many milliseconds each frame takes to render. Higher FPS means smoother gameplay; frame time helps identify stutters.
Memory Usage: Displays RAM currently allocated to Minecraft. Watch this if your game feels sluggish—high memory use can cause lag spikes.
Entity and Chunk Counts: Entities are mobs, items, and other moving objects. Chunks are the 16×16 blocks that make up your world. Too many entities or loaded chunks will tank performance.
Ping (Multiplayer): Shows your connection latency to the server in milliseconds. High ping causes delayed interactions.
CPU Usage and Temperature: If your system supports it, these show processor load and heat. Overheating can cause throttling and frame drops.
Use these metrics to diagnose lag: if FPS is low but memory is fine, your CPU might be the bottleneck.
