Diagnosing FPS Drops Using Performance Metrics

Identifying the Bottleneck

When your game lags, the HUD helps pinpoint the cause. Open the overlay with P and watch the metrics during the lag spike.

What Each Metric Reveals

Low FPS + High Frame Time: Your GPU or rendering is struggling. Try enabling Performance Mode or reducing render distance.

High Memory Usage: Minecraft is running out of RAM. Close other programs or allocate more memory to the game.

High Entity Count: Too many mobs, items, or projectiles exist. Kill nearby mobs or use commands to clear entities.

High Chunk Count: You've loaded too many chunks. Reduce render distance or move to a less explored area.

High CPU Usage: Your processor is maxed out. This often happens with complex redstone, many entities, or heavy mods. Enable Performance Mode.

High Ping (Multiplayer): Network lag, not your computer. Check your internet connection or server distance.

Next Steps

Once you identify the culprit, take action: reduce settings, enable Performance Mode, move away from lag sources, or restart the game. Monitor the HUD again to confirm improvement.
