Perf Boost Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the stats screen?
Press P by default to toggle the stats screen on and off. The screen appears in the top right corner and shows your FPS, frame time, RAM usage, entity count, chunk count, ping, CPU usage, and temperature.
What does performance mode actually do?
Performance mode automatically lowers your graphics settings when your game starts lagging, including capping particles, reducing render and simulation distance, and disabling ambient occlusion and entity shadows. Your original settings are restored when you turn performance mode off.
How do I turn on performance mode?
Press O by default to toggle performance mode on or off. You can change this hotkey in your controls menu if you prefer a different button.
Can I change the hotkeys for the stats screen and performance mode?
Yes, go to your controls menu and search for the Perf Boost Mod keybinds to reassign P and O to whatever keys you prefer.
Does performance mode save my graphics settings permanently?
No, performance mode does not save changes to your main options file. When you turn it off, your graphics settings return to what they were before, and your options file remains unchanged.
How can I tell if lag is from my computer or my server?
Check the stats screen: high ping indicates server lag, while high frame time or low FPS despite low ping indicates your computer is struggling. CPU usage and temperature can also reveal if your machine is overloaded.
What's the difference between render distance and simulation distance?
Render distance controls how far away blocks are drawn on your screen, while simulation distance controls how far away game events (like mob behavior and block updates) happen. Performance mode reduces render distance to 8 chunks and simulation distance to 6 chunks.
Why does my stats screen show high CPU usage?
High CPU usage usually means your computer is working hard to process game logic, entities, or chunk updates. Try enabling performance mode to reduce the workload, or lower your simulation distance manually.
Can I use performance mode while playing multiplayer?
Yes, performance mode works in both single-player and multiplayer. The stats screen also shows your ping to the server so you can distinguish between server lag and local performance issues.
What happens if I turn off performance mode mid-game?
Your graphics settings instantly return to what they were before you enabled performance mode. No changes are saved to your options file, so your settings remain exactly as you had them configured.
