Particle Rain Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Why isn't the rain doing anything different after I installed Particle Rain?
Particle Rain replaces the vanilla rain rendering, so make sure your video settings have particles enabled and that you're not using a resource pack or shader that overrides weather. If you're in a biome with no precipitation, you also won't see anything until it actually rains or snows.
How do I turn Particle Rain on or off?
The mod is active by default once installed, and its effects are controlled through the mod's config file rather than an in-game toggle. Edit the config to disable specific effects like ripples, streaks, or ground fog if you only want some of them.
How do I make the rain fall at an angle like wind is blowing it?
Angled rain is part of the mod's default behavior and is tied to wind direction and intensity rather than a manual setting. If your rain looks straight down, check that no other weather mod or shader is overriding the rain rendering.
How do I find a sandstorm in a desert or mesa?
Sandstorms spawn as weather events in desert and mesa biomes, so spend time in those biomes and wait for the weather to change. Mesas get red sandstorms while regular deserts get tan ones, and both blow dust and shrubs around.
How do I survive a sandstorm without dying?
Sandstorms reduce visibility and can push you around, so shelter in a building or dig into a hillside until it passes. Avoid traveling through open desert during one, since getting disoriented is the main danger.
Why don't I see water ripples or streaks when it rains?
Ripples only appear when rain lands on water and streaks only appear on solid walls, so you need to be near both during a storm. Ripple appearance also matches your resource pack's resolution, so a pack that doesn't support them may hide the effect.
How do I get puddles to show up?
Puddles are shader-compatible and are controlled through resource packs, so install a pack that includes puddle textures if you don't see them. If you use shaders, make sure the shader pack supports the mod's puddle rendering.
Why is my rain a different color than normal?
Particle Rain tints rain and water particles to match the biome's water color, so rain in a swamp or ocean biome will look different from rain in a plains biome. This is intentional biome tinting, not a bug.
Does Particle Rain work with shaders and other weather mods?
It's designed to be shader-compatible, especially for puddles and ripples, but some shader packs and other weather mods can override its effects. If effects disappear, try disabling conflicting weather mods or switching shader packs.
Particle Rain is tanking my FPS — how do I fix it?
The particle-heavy effects like sandstorms and ground fog are the biggest performance cost, so lower your particle settings or disable individual effects in the config. Reducing render distance and avoiding shaders during storms also helps.
