How to Test Whether a Tree Will Fall Before Chopping It

Quick Checks Before You Swing

You can predict whether Panda's Falling Trees will collapse a tree without destroying it. First, identify the log block at the base and the leaf blocks in the canopy. The mod needs the log to be recognized as a log and the leaves to be recognized as leaves through their tags or through your config entries. If you recently added blocks to the config, make sure you restarted the game, because changes are not applied mid-session.

Safe Testing Method

Pick a tree you do not mind losing, ideally one you planted yourself. Break only the lowest log block and step back. If the mod recognizes the tree, the remaining trunk logs will fall and the leaves will decay or drop as configured. If only the single log breaks and the rest stays in place, the tree is not recognized. In that case, check whether the leaves belong to the leaves tag or whether you need to add both the log and leaf blocks to the config. Also confirm you are not breaking stripped logs, wood blocks, or other variants that may not be treated as tree logs. Testing on a planted tree first lets you confirm your tag or config setup works before you rely on it in a survival world, and it quickly reveals which modded trees still need entries.
