Enable Light Level Overlays on Blocks

Activating Light Level Display

Overlay Lib Mod provides the rendering foundation that allows other mods to display light level information directly on your blocks. To see light levels in your world, you'll need a mod that uses Overlay Lib to draw this data—such as a light level indicator mod.

Once you have both Overlay Lib and a compatible overlay mod installed:

1. Launch your game and load a world

2. Look for a keybind or configuration option in the overlay mod's settings (usually accessible via in-game menu or config file)

3. Toggle the light level overlay on

4. Blocks will now display visual markers showing their light values

Understanding the Display

Light level overlays typically use colors or numbers to indicate brightness. Darker areas show lower light levels (where mobs can spawn), while brighter areas show higher levels. This helps you plan lighting for mob-proofing or finding dark caves.

Overlay Lib handles all the complex rendering math behind the scenes, so the overlay appears smoothly without causing lag, even when displaying data across many blocks at once.
