Overlay Lib Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to do anything after installing Overlay Lib Mod?
No—Overlay Lib Mod works automatically in the background once installed. You won't see a menu or settings screen for it; instead, you'll notice that information mods (like light level overlays) now work properly without errors.
Why do I need Overlay Lib if I just want light level overlays?
Overlay Lib handles all the technical work of drawing overlays onto your blocks efficiently. Without it, overlay mods would have to do this work themselves, causing lag and compatibility problems; Overlay Lib centralizes this so multiple mods can share the same rendering system.
Can I use Overlay Lib with multiple information mods at once?
Yes—that's one of Overlay Lib's main purposes. It lets several mods draw their overlays simultaneously without conflicts or performance loss, as long as your system can handle the visual load.
My overlays are flickering or disappearing. What's wrong?
Check that Overlay Lib is actually installed alongside your information mod, and verify both are the correct version for your Minecraft version. If they're both present and up to date, try disabling other visual mods temporarily to see if there's a conflict.
Does Overlay Lib slow down my game?
Overlay Lib is designed to minimize lag by caching visual data in memory rather than recalculating it every frame. The overlays themselves will impact performance based on how many blocks are being highlighted, but Overlay Lib makes this as efficient as possible.
Why aren't my overlays showing up on certain blocks?
Some blocks may be excluded by the information mod you're using (not by Overlay Lib itself), or the overlay feature might need to be enabled in that mod's settings. Check the documentation for the specific overlay mod you installed.
Is Overlay Lib compatible with Fabric and Forge?
Overlay Lib exists for both mod loaders, but you must use the version built for your loader. Installing a Forge version on Fabric (or vice versa) will cause it to fail silently.
Can I customize the colors or brightness of overlays?
Overlay Lib itself doesn't have color settings—it provides the rendering system for other mods to use. Color customization is controlled by the individual information mods that use Overlay Lib.
What happens if I remove Overlay Lib after using it?
Any mods that depend on Overlay Lib will fail to load and you'll see errors in the log. Remove or update those mods as well, or reinstall Overlay Lib to restore functionality.
Does Overlay Lib work in multiplayer servers?
Yes, Overlay Lib works on both single-player and multiplayer servers. It only affects your client-side visuals, so it won't interfere with other players or server rules.
