How to Explore Overhauled Villages and Outposts Safely

Prepare Before You Travel

Overhauled villages and pillager outposts can be larger and more spread out than vanilla ones, so treat each trip like a mini expedition. Carry a bed, food, torches, and a way to mark your path. Outposts in particular are guarded, so bring armor and a weapon even if you only plan to look around.

Approach Villages Carefully

Villages are generally safe, but the redesigned layouts can hide mobs in alleys or behind buildings. Light up dark corners as you go and check every structure for chests. If you plan to trade, find the villagers first and note where they are so you don't lose them in the larger layout.

Handle Outposts with Caution

Pillager outposts are hostile. Clear pillagers from the outside in, and watch for the outpost's taller sections where pillagers can shoot from above. Once cleared, loot the chests — remember some use custom loot tables with extra food and armor.

Mark and Revisit

Place a banner or build a small marker at structures you want to return to. Since the mod adds many variants, you may want to map out which biome types you've already explored so you can seek out the ones you haven't seen yet.
