Overhauled Village Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I find the new villages in my world?
Use the vanilla locate command for villages, since the mod replaces and expands the existing village spawns rather than adding a separate structure type. The exact command differs by game version, so check your version's syntax. If you want a specific variant, pick a biome first and search there.
Why do I keep finding the same village variant over and over?
Each variant is tied to a specific biome, so staying in one biome means you'll keep seeing the same design. Travel into different biomes to see other variants. The variant you get depends on where the structure spawns, not on random chance.
How do I know which biome a village variant belongs to?
Look at the building materials, roof style, and surrounding decorations, since each variant is designed to match its biome's theme. If a village looks out of place, you're probably near a biome border. Exploring the biome itself is the most reliable way to confirm.
Are the pillager outposts different too?
Yes, the mod adds multiple outpost designs, each matched to its environment just like the villages. They still function as normal outposts with pillagers and a captain. The layout and look change, but the core threat stays the same.
Is the loot in these villages better than vanilla?
Most chests use vanilla loot tables for compatibility, but some use custom tables with extra food and armor. So you'll find familiar items plus occasional bonuses. Don't expect every chest to be upgraded.
Why are my chests empty or giving weird loot?
If another mod also edits village loot tables, conflicts can occur. The mod uses vanilla tables specifically to reduce this, but load order and other structure mods can still interfere. Try testing with only this mod enabled to isolate the cause.
Do these villages work with other mods?
Yes, the mod is built for compatibility, using vanilla loot tables and standard structure mechanics. Most mods that add biomes, mobs, or items will work fine alongside it. Mods that heavily rewrite village generation may still conflict.
Will this mod hurt my performance?
It only adds structures, so performance impact is usually minimal unless you're loading many chunks with large villages at once. If you notice lag, it's more likely from other mods or your render distance. Structures generate once and don't constantly run code.
Can I use this mod on a server with friends?
Yes, as long as the mod is installed on both the server and each client. Structure generation happens server-side, but clients need the mod to see the custom builds correctly. Everyone should use matching versions.
Do I need to start a new world for the villages to appear?
New structures only generate in chunks you haven't explored yet, so existing worlds will show them in unexplored areas. You don't need a new world, but you do need to travel beyond where you've already been. Already-loaded chunks won't retroactively gain villages.
