OreXray Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on ore highlighting?
OreXray Shaders works automatically once installed—ores will be highlighted and visible through stone and deepslate by default. If you don't see highlighting, check that shaders are enabled in your video settings and that the shader pack is selected.
Can I see ores through Bedrock?
No, bedrock blocks the highlighting effect, so ores embedded in or behind bedrock walls remain hidden. You can only see ores through regular stone, deepslate, and similar solid blocks.
Does this work in the Nether and End?
Yes, the shader highlights ores in all dimensions, including Nether ores through netherrack and End stone ores. Entity outlines also work everywhere, making mob tracking useful in any biome.
Will this mod work with other shader packs?
OreXray Shaders is a complete shader pack and replaces your current shaders—you cannot layer it on top of another shader pack. You'll need to choose between OreXray and other visual shader packs.
How do I adjust the brightness or color of ore highlights?
Most shader packs include a settings screen accessible in-game (usually through a menu or keybind); check your shader options to customize highlight intensity, colors, or toggle specific ore types on and off.
Does ore highlighting work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, shaders are client-side only, so OreXray Shaders works on any server without requiring the server to install or allow it. However, using it may violate server rules—check your server's policy on visual mods.
Why is my frame rate dropping with this shader?
Ore highlighting and entity outlines add rendering overhead; if performance suffers, try lowering your render distance, disabling other visual mods, or checking if your GPU drivers are up to date. Some shader packs offer performance-lite versions.
Can I see highlighted ores while looking at them directly, or only through blocks?
Ore highlighting works both ways—ores glow and stand out whether you're looking directly at them or viewing them through solid terrain, making them easy to spot either way.
Do the entity outlines show all mobs or just hostile ones?
Entity outlines typically highlight all mobs including passive animals, hostile mobs, and other entities; check your shader settings to see if you can filter which entity types are outlined.
Will this shader highlight ores in caves I haven't explored yet?
Yes, as long as the ore is within your render distance and you can see through the stone to it, the highlighting will reveal it—this makes finding caves and ore pockets much faster than traditional mining.
