Optimization Modpack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to configure anything after installing the Optimization Modpack?
No, the pack works out of the box with sensible defaults. You can optionally open the Sodium video settings to fine-tune render distance, graphics quality, and performance options, but nothing is required to see the FPS boost.
Why does my FPS counter still show low numbers after installing?
Make sure the game is actually loading the bundled mods and not running in vanilla mode, and check that your render distance and simulation distance aren't set very high. Also confirm your GPU drivers are up to date, since Sodium relies on modern graphics APIs.
Will this modpack break my redstone contraptions or farms?
No, the pack is vanilla-friendly and doesn't change gameplay mechanics, block behavior, or redstone timing. Lithium and similar mods optimize the server-side logic without altering the results of your contraptions.
Can I add other mods on top of the Optimization Modpack?
Yes, you can add most mods, but avoid stacking multiple mods that do the same job, like two different rendering optimizers or two lighting engines. Conflicts between overlapping optimization mods are the most common cause of crashes or visual bugs.
Why did my chunk loading or lighting glitches not go away after installing Starlight?
Starlight only fixes issues caused by vanilla's lighting engine, so glitches from other mods or corrupted chunks won't be resolved by it. Try loading the affected chunks in a fresh world or removing conflicting mods to isolate the cause.
How do I know which optimization mod is causing a crash or bug?
Check the crash report or latest.log for the mod named in the stack trace, then temporarily remove or disable that mod to confirm. Since the pack bundles several mods, isolating one at a time is the fastest way to find the culprit.
Does the pack help with server-side lag or only client FPS?
Lithium and similar mods improve server-side tick performance, which helps on integrated servers and multiplayer, while Sodium mainly boosts client rendering. For a dedicated server you'd typically install the server-side mods separately.
Why is my memory usage still high even with FerriteCore installed?
FerriteCore reduces memory used by block states and models, but it can't fix leaks from other mods or an oversized allocated heap. Lower your render distance, reduce allocated RAM to a reasonable amount, and check for mods with known memory leaks.
Can I use shaders with the Optimization Modpack?
Yes, Sodium supports shaders through compatible shader loaders, but shaders will reduce the FPS gains you'd otherwise see. If performance drops, disable shaders or lower their quality settings to find a balance.
Why do I still get stutter and lag spikes even though my average FPS is high?
Stutter usually comes from garbage collection, chunk generation, or background processes rather than raw rendering speed. Try pre-generating chunks, tuning your allocated RAM, and closing other programs to smooth out the spikes.
