Optimizing Performance While Using Only Shadows Shaders
Reduce Shadow Render Distance
In shader settings, lower the shadow distance parameter. This is the most impactful performance adjustment, as it limits how far the shader calculates shadows. Start by reducing it moderately and test frame rates in different areas.
Lower Shadow Resolution
Find the shadow map resolution or quality setting. Reducing this decreases the detail and sharpness of shadows but significantly improves performance. Medium settings often provide a good balance between visual quality and frame rate.
Disable Ambient Occlusion Selectively
If performance is still poor, consider reducing ambient occlusion strength rather than disabling it entirely. This preserves some depth perception while freeing up processing power.
Adjust Minecraft Video Settings
Pair shader optimization with vanilla settings: reduce render distance, lower particle effects, and disable smooth lighting if needed. These changes work together with shader settings to improve overall performance.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use F3 debug screen to watch FPS while adjusting settings. Make one change at a time so you understand which settings impact your specific system most.
