Onechunk Survival Map FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
What do I do first when I spawn?
Look around to identify what blocks are available in your chunk, then carefully break wood from trees or logs without letting the drops fall off the edge—use a platform or dig downward to catch items. Once you have wood, craft a crafting table and basic tools to start gathering other resources more efficiently.
How do I stop items from falling off the edge?
Build walls, fences, or a raised platform around the perimeter of your chunk to catch drops, or dig down slightly and work in a recessed area where gravity keeps items contained. You can also place water streams to push items toward a central collection point.
Can I expand beyond one chunk?
No—the map is locked to a single 16×16 chunk, and there is a strict border that prevents you from leaving or building outside that zone. The entire challenge is working within this fixed space.
What's the best way to get wood when there's so little?
Harvest every log you can find without waste, then use bone meal (if available) or natural growth to regrow trees on your limited space. Consider building a compact tree farm in a corner of your chunk so you have a renewable source.
How should I layout my base to fit everything?
Use vertical building—stack your storage, crafting area, furnace, and farm on top of each other or in separate levels—and dedicate specific zones (like a corner for crops, another for crafting) to stay organized. Multi-purpose blocks like stairs and slabs take up less visual space while still being functional.
What's the fastest way to get food?
Plant seeds or potatoes as soon as possible in a small farm area, since crops are renewable and don't require hunting. If you find animals, breed them in a tiny pen, but farming is usually more reliable with limited space.
Do mobs spawn on a one-chunk map?
Yes, mobs can still spawn in dark areas, so you'll need to light up your chunk or build a safe base with a roof and walls to avoid surprise attacks. The tight space makes mob encounters more dangerous since you have nowhere to run.
Can I use mods or commands to make this easier?
That depends on your server or world rules—some players play pure vanilla survival, while others allow quality-of-life commands or mods. Check your specific map's guidelines or enable/disable features as you prefer.
What happens if I die?
You respawn at your spawn point (usually the center of the chunk), and your items drop where you died—if they fall off the edge, they're gone forever. Keep your most valuable items in a chest to avoid losing them.
Is there an end goal or win condition?
The map doesn't have a built-in objective—you set your own goals, like reaching a certain number of resources, building a specific structure, or simply surviving as long as possible. Some players challenge themselves to reach the Nether or Ender Dragon with only one-chunk resources.
