Mine Efficiently in a Tiny Space Without Falling Off
Create a Safe Vertical Shaft
Dig straight down from a corner or edge of your chunk, leaving a 1-block-wide pillar in the center. This pillar gives you something to hold onto and prevents accidental falls into the void. Place torches on one side as you descend to mark your path back up.
Use Stairs or Slabs for Descent
Instead of digging a bare hole, place stairs or slabs in a spiral or staircase pattern as you go down. This lets you walk safely without jumping, and you're less likely to slip off the edge of your chunk.
Mine in Layers
Once you reach stone level, mine horizontally in thin layers rather than randomly digging. This keeps you organized and prevents you from accidentally breaking through to the void. Work one level at a time before moving deeper.
Mark the Chunk Boundary
Place a distinctive block or torch line at the edge of your chunk as a visual warning. This helps you remember where the boundary is so you never dig into empty space by mistake.
