Omniscient Storage Index Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using this mod?
Open chests and storage containers around your base so the mod can index them, then press I or type /InvS gui to open the search menu. The mod automatically tracks containers as you interact with them, so there's no setup required beyond opening your storage.
Why isn't my chest showing up in the index?
The mod only indexes containers you've opened in-game; if a chest hasn't been opened yet, it won't appear in your search results. Walk over to any unopened storage and open it once so the mod can add it to the index.
Can I use this mod on a multiplayer server?
Yes, the mod runs entirely on your client side, so you can use it on any server without requiring the server owner to install anything. Your index is personal to your game client and won't affect other players.
What's the difference between the in-game menu and the web dashboard?
The in-game menu opens with a hotkey and lets you search and navigate to containers in real time, while the web dashboard is a local browser interface that shows your full inventory overview without needing to be in-game. Both access the same indexed data.
How do I find the closest container with an item I need?
Type the item name into the search bar, then click the Locate or Look button next to the result—the mod will highlight the nearest matching chest and optionally turn your camera toward it. You can also use the range slider to filter results by distance.
Does the mod work with modded storage containers?
The mod indexes chests, barrels, and standard storage containers by default; compatibility with modded storage depends on whether those containers use standard Minecraft storage mechanics. If a modded container doesn't appear, it may not be compatible with the indexing system.
Can I search for enchanted items or specific gear?
Yes, you can view enchantment details for stored gear in the search results, and the mod displays full item information including enchantments when you click on a stored item. This helps you locate specific enchanted tools or armor quickly.
What happens to my index if I restart the game?
Your index persists across game sessions as long as you don't delete the mod's data files. The mod remembers all previously indexed containers and their contents, so you can pick up where you left off.
How do I use the materials highlight feature?
Type /InvS materials highlight to automatically highlight all containers holding materials needed for your current structural builds in-game. Use /InvS materials clear to remove the highlights when you're done.
Will this mod affect my game performance?
The mod runs on the client side and only processes data when you actively search or open menus, so performance impact is minimal. Indexing large bases may take slightly longer to load, but normal gameplay should not be affected.
