Using /execute and /function on Offline Players
Why /execute matters here
/execute is the backbone of advanced admin work — it lets you run a command *as* or *at* a target. Offline Commands Mod makes the selector resolve offline players, so you can chain effects, conditions, and bulk operations without the player being present.
Examples you can adapt
1. Run a command in the context of an offline player:
/execute as <player> run <command>
2. Run a command at their last known position:
/execute at <player> run <command>
3. Combine with a condition, e.g. only act if they have a tag:
/execute as <player> if entity @s[tag=<tag>] run <command>
4. Trigger a datapack function targeting them:
/function <namespace:function> where the function internally uses @a or @p selectors — note that @p/@a only match online players, so prefer explicit names or @e with a name filter for offline work.
Gotchas
- Selector arguments like
distanceorx/y/zare evaluated against the stored position, which may be stale. - Some subcommands still require a live entity; if a chain silently fails, isolate each link and test it alone.
- Keep functions idempotent so re-running them after a failed attempt does not double-apply effects.
