Offline Commands Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I use commands on a player who is offline?
Just run the command normally and type the offline player's name where you'd put an online player's name. The mod intercepts the command and applies it to their saved data instead of failing with 'player not found'.
Why does it say 'player not found' even with this mod installed?
The player must have joined the server at least once so a playerdata file exists for them. If they've never logged in, or you typed the name with wrong capitalization, the command still fails.
Does the offline player need to be online for the command to take effect?
No. Changes are written directly to their saved player data, and they'll see the results the next time they log in.
Can I give items or XP to someone who isn't online?
Yes, /give and /experience work on offline players and the items or levels are stored in their inventory and data. They'll have everything when they next join.
Can I teleport an offline player?
Yes, /teleport works on offline players, but since they aren't in the world, the position is saved and applied when they log in. Teleporting them to another player who is also offline may not behave as expected.
Can I ban or kick an offline player with this mod?
Banning works through vanilla /ban since it targets names, not online entities. Kicking requires the player to be online, so /kick still won't work on someone who isn't connected.
Does /execute work on offline players?
Yes, /execute as and at an offline player resolve against their saved data. Position-based subcommands use their last logged-out location, so results can differ from when they were online.
Can I edit an offline player's tags, advancements, or attributes?
Yes, /tag, /advancement, and /attribute all work on offline players and modify their stored data. Changes apply immediately to the saved file and show up on their next login.
Will this mod break other mods or vanilla commands?
It only changes how the listed vanilla commands resolve player targets, so most other mods are unaffected. Commands from other mods that don't use the vanilla player argument won't gain offline support.
Does using commands on offline players cause lag or data corruption?
Each command reads and writes that player's data file, so running many at once on the same player can cause brief lag. Avoid spamming commands on the same offline player in a single tick.
