How to Cook and Eat Guardian Without Dying to Thorns

The Problem With Guardians

Guardians hit you with a laser while you mine, and Elder Guardians apply Mining Fatigue. If you are hunting them for food, you are fighting in water with reduced visibility. Bring Water Breathing potions, a Depth Strider boot enchant, and preferably a Riptide trident so you can launch yourself out of the water between hits. Do not fight an Elder Guardian in an enclosed room — you will drown while stunned.

What They Drop

Guardians drop Guardian Tail and Guardian meat pieces. Elder Guardians drop the larger cuts: Slice of Elder Guardian, Slab of Elder Guardian, and Roll of Elder Guardian. These are the premium ingredients — treat them like you would a steak from a cow, not a throwaway drop.

Cooking Steps

1. Raw Guardian Tail cooks into Cooked Guardian Tail in a furnace or smoker.

2. Raw Slice of Elder Guardian cooks into Cooked Slice of Elder Guardian.

3. Guardian Soup is made in a cooking pot or crafting step — it needs a Bowl to serve, so craft bowls before you start.

4. Bowl of Guardian Soup is the finished, edible form. It does not stack, so eat it on the spot rather than carrying several.

5. Cabbage Wrapped Elder Guardian is the high-end dish — save it for boss fights or long expeditions.

Guardian dishes generally give strong saturation, which makes them worth the danger.
